The Organic Team Attends LinkLove Boston

One of the biggest link building conferences of the year is Distilled's LinkLove conference in Boston. This year, the Organic Team sent four teammates to learn and network at this event.  Beth, Nate, and I started our journey to LinkLove at 4:30 a.m. to make it to the Indianapolis airport in time for our 6 a.m. flight. After a delay in Indianapolis and a lengthy connection in Detroit, we made it to Manchester, New Hampshire and boarded a 50-minute shuttle ride to Boston. We met up with Stacie at our hotel -- she took a train from her vacation in New Jersey. The conference was absolutely spectacular with a star-studded lineup! The first speaker was Rand Fishkin, CEO of SEOmoz, who spoke about the importance of focusing on creating great content. He said that awesome

Part of the organic team's job is to create awesome content that encourages our visitors to share, revisit, and interact with our sites. Sometimes it's an infographic on hat history, sometimes it's a blog post with 10 tips on getting up and out the door in 10 minutes, but whatever the medium, we're always looking for new ways to connect with our audience. If you've seen any of our how to tie a scarf content, you also know that we've been dabbling in video for awhile now. Last week we hit a pretty big milestone in our video career...drumroll, please! This is my attempt at drawing confetti.  ONE MILLION YOUTUBE VIEWS!! (Okay, yes, that picture

As a member of One Click Ventures and an SEO for multiple brands, I don't think I'm supposed to pick a favorite site... but sometimes I can't help myself. Scarves Dot Net is hands-down my favorite shop in the One Click quiver -- to the point that Adam Bruk, the sock man, and I declared an all-out (friendly) store war -- Socks vs. Scarves. ;) During the past few months, Scarves Dot Net underwent quite a few hefty changes. With accidental viral graphics, a redesign, and a domain switch from AffordableScarves.com -- Scarves Dot Net grew up a lot recently. For the past couple months, I worked on my biggest project yet here at One Click, The Knot Library. In a nutshell, The Knot Library is an index of all the scarf-tying tutorials that One Clickers created over the past year or so.

Located just a few miles from downtown Indianapolis, the One Click team could not be more excited to have Super Bowl XLVI right in our backyard. With a hometown advantage, the OCV organic team created the Insider's Guide to Super Bowl XLVI, which shares details on events surrounding the big game. The organic team also compiled a list of favorite Indianapolis restaurants and nightlife spots to help football fans who visit the Super City. To get an insider's view on all the Super Bowl festivities, the organic team and I  took a field trip downtown one afternoon to take in the sights and to explore the Super Bowl Village for ourselves -- we snapped some photos, ate at a favorite restaurant, and explored the sights!

Sunglass Warehouse’s New Year’s Resolutions

It’s a new year, and as a member of the OCV Organic Team for Sunglass Warehouse, I couldn’t be more excited for 2012! We achieved many of our goals and had an outstanding 2011, and we hope to continue this momentum into 2012. Like many others starting their New Year’s resolutions this month, the Sunglass Warehouse team members are ready to divide and conquer. Our main focus for 2012 is to provide an even better shopping experience for our customers. We take customer feedback very seriously and rely on it to improve the One Click experience overall. Here are three projects the Sunglass Warehouse team has up their sleeve for 2012: The Sunglass Warehouse blog will have more content based on your needs. We have received great feedback on the articles we’ve posted over the past couple of months, but we’re not completely satisfied unless you’re completely satisfied. We are

Crafting Your Backlink Profile with Pinterest

Whenever I share a blog post I've written for work on my Facebook or to a friend or to my mom, they always react the same. "You get to craft at work? Wait, what do you do again?" And then I tell them I'm an SEO. Many people hear the term SEO and they automatically think that all we do is spam the web to promote our websites. Sure the bad, black hat SEOs do a lot of shameful and annoying things, but I'm happy to be part of an SEO team that takes the high road. A big part of the organic team's job is to create content and make linkbait to get other websites to link back to our stores so that the stores' domain authority grows and ranks higher in Google. Recently, one of our favorite places to gain natural backlinks is through Pinterest. Here are some

5 Things I Learned From 2011 Search Queries

It's that time again: time to say "goodbye" to the old year and "hello" to the new, time to reflect on the highs and lows of the past twelve months. Trying sushi? Gross.  Finishing grad school? Awesome. Paying to see Fast Five? Regretful. Don't deny it - it was bad. (Okay, except maybe for the scene with the safe). As SEOs, we're also neck-deep in data, planning out our strategies for 2012 and digging through the trends of 2011. My compatriot in PPC already went over some of the most popular PPC phrases of the last year; in a similar dive through common organic queries, I found myself coming to some pretty deep philosophical conclusions.  1) People are obsessed with Justin Bieber. I know this shouldn't be new to me. We all love our celebrities: Kourtney Kardashian, Snooki, Taylor Swift, Brad Pitt, even Mickey Mouse all make their

The Affordable Style Showdown

When it comes to the online fashion world, the OCV Organic Team has a lot on our plate. With constantly evolving seasonal trends, a rising number of social inspiration sites like Pinterest, and an overabundance of up-and-coming fashion bloggers, the e-commerce style sphere is constantly shifting and expanding. But there’s one thing that never changes for us: we’re always on top of it. Our latest beloved content tool? A site called Polyvore, which allows us to “clip” our Affordable Style products and put together fashionable works of art. These looks are then used for our sites’ resources or posted on other sites, either for store posts, guest posts, or anywhere else we can get our creative hands on. While browsing the Polyvore product masses recently, I discovered a number of designer accessories that looked scarily similar to our chic new styles—and not anywhere close to our inexpensive price tags. Why pay an

Travel Products Gets a New York Times Mention

“Expensive gifts are a cop-out. Who can’t find a nice travel-related item for hundreds of dollars? (Gucci toiletry case, $425, anyone?) On the other hand, coming up with creative, personalized gifts that don’t cost much takes some effort,” said Seth Kugel in his yearly list of gift ideas for travelers. We here at One Click couldn’t agree more. We aim to provide quality, designer-inspired products at a fraction of the designer cost—travel products included. Krugel, better known as the Frugal Traveler, is a popular columnist for the New York Times.  In an effort to “see the world on a budget”, Seth scours the globe for hidden locals, the best places to stay, travel tools, and delicious dining…all without breaking the bank. His witty and informative writing has captured a loyal group of followers and he’s extremely influential among the traveling community. So it’s not hard to imagine how excited the One

OCV Gets Creative

Get a group of One Clickers together, and you can automatically tell from the conversation and laughter that we're a creative group. Lucky for us, acting on out-of-the-box ideas is encouraged -- something that makes the One Click culture unique. The team I'm part of (team Thundercats!) loves OCV's encouragement of creativity and ingenuity. When you spend all day working on the Internet, you come across so much crafty and unique inspiration, which is the basis of most of our creative endeavors. We often have DIY Fridays where we each work on a DIY scarf project during the afternoon. Some of our projects have included a scarf camera strap, a DIY printed scarf, DIY Scarf Flats, and a DIY no-sew poncho. But it's not all fun and games! Our DIY projects are based off keyword
