The Greatest Thing About the Internet

What makes the Internet great? Is it pictures of dogs balancing things on their heads or balancing precariously on fire hydrants? Is it the seemingly endless stream of cat gifs? While all of these things are totally awesome, I firmly believe that what makes the Internet great is the availability and proliferation of communities. So what do I mean by “community”? There are several forms of the word as it exists online, ranging from robust message boards/forums, to pop culture blogs and news sites with active commenting communities, to media aggregation sites. Each community has its own unique and special set of skills *Liam Neeson voice*, but the thread that unites them all is the spirit of learning and sharing. I recently bought a nifty little Kindle Fire, but quickly discovered that I couldn’t download all the apps I was hoping to through the Amazon

OCV PPC Zeitgeist 2011

I know how much everyone loves the year-end tsunami of lists and rankings of everything from music and TV shows, to books and celebrities, so I decided to take a page out of Google’s book and put together a little sample of some of the most popular (and interesting) search phrases from our PPC campaigns over the year. The State of Paid Search

Every marketing channel is critical to the success of our brands here at One Click Ventures, but few other channels see a cause-and-effect relationship quite like Paid Search. Email is a notable exception, and I would be remiss if I didn’t take the time to give a shout-out to our email team! The cause-and-effect with Paid Search is unique in that potential customers who search for our products and are served our ads are looking for one (or perhaps a few) specific products when they shop online. This search and purchase intent makes it necessary for our Paid Search team to deliver relevant ads to each customer and direct them to appropriate landing pages that help them find exactly what they’re looking for quickly and easily. One Click has had success in Paid Search through dedicated account management and experimentation with bid changes, ad copy, and landing pages. Success in the

On-the-Job Learning at OCV

For many web-based businesses, staying on top of industry trends and best practices can be challenging and time consuming. Everyone has their own tasks and responsibilities during the work day, traveling to conferences can be expensive, and finding the time to catch up with industry blogs after working hours can be difficult…. especially with things like grocery shopping, laundry (ugh) and other social functions taking up very valuable time. What’s the solution? One great way to stay informed and on the cutting edge of technological and thought advancement is through webinars. If you’ve never participated in one, a webinar is basically a multi-media conference call where executives, consultants, or analysts present a case-study or set of best practices on a topic of interest. Companies like Marketing Experiments, Hubspot, GetElastic, SiteTuners and Shoutlet all offer free webinars regularly, and we at OCV have found them to be
